2 days out and I have made it my mission to research the benefits of quitting sugar. This is so when I'm lying in the foetal position rocking back and forth, I can remind myself why I am doing this.
GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!! Judging by the pictures in all of the quitting sugar info, one can assume that quitting sugar will:
A) Make me look like I just stepped off the front cover of Vogue
B) Make my wardrobe change from gym pants and kmart tops to Gucci and Versace
C) Make my teeth straight and white
D) Make me a size 0 in no time....
E) Make me become an amazing chef and a skilled photographer of all the foods
Somehow I'm just not buying this, I mean they had completely sold until E... me becoming an amazing Chef.. Pfft, thats never going to happen!
However, from the 12 blogs/websites I researched they all agreed on the following 5 things.
1 - YOU WILL SAVE MONEY
Due to not indulging in buying takeaway, snacks and treats or that innocent wine or 12, you will start to save money. Although I'm thinking these bloggers may be in kahoots with health food stores, as when I priced up my ingredients list, I thought I may have to take out a small loan. $16 for a bag of almonds... aint nobody got time for that.
BUT in the spirit of being positive, I guess once you get all the base ingredients in your initial shop, your grocery list for the following week would be smaller. And in a gesture of good will to that adorable $16 bag of almonds, I will admit that almonds are delicious (except if your allergic to them, then they are the devils spawn)
2 - YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT
Yeh boi!! Shouts the vain, weight obsessive voice in my head (who judging by the term "boi" is a complete tool.....) I would be lying if I said " I'm just doing this to be healthy". As you all know I'm doing this so that when I wear jeans, it doesn't look like i'm hiding a small pool ring around my waist.. Oh muffin top I despise you!
3 - YOU WILL GET CLEARER SKIN
This is one that I could actually benefit from. When I was pregnant with my first child I developed this 'hormonal acne" on my cheeks. (and when I say cheeks I mean on my face... ) The doctor said this would go away after giving birth BUT it never did. Nothing they gave me worked, all it did was burn my skin to the point where it looked like I was severely sunburnt every single day. I did eventually find a doctor who helped clear it up with some very nice EXPENSIVE cream. I would love for my skin to clear up naturally from giving up sugar. Take that Beiber and your proactive endorsement!
4 - YOU WILL HAVE AN INCREASE IN ENERGY
When I exercise, I usually have a pre-work out drink to give me that little kick but unfortunately, that wont be happening for the next 8 weeks. I don't drink coffee and I try not to drink coke, unless its a special occasion and I'm mixing it with scotch (special occasions can include the sun being out, its a day of the week ending in "y" and that I made it through an hour without killing my husband). I do rely on sugar to get me through that afternoon slump. It isn't unusual for me to grab a frozen coke after work, or have a chocolate or 10 before 5pm. So a natural increase in energy would be most welcome!
5 - YOU WILL FIND YOUR WILLPOWER IS STRONGER
Amen!! If I can get through the detox period without caving in, then I know that I will have my A game willpower initiated. Friends will be like "Hey, lets go on a vigilante mission tonight and set fire to the town ." And for once I will be able to say "No, guys, your not pressuring me into doing that again. I'm staying home tonight to eat activated nuts (yeh thats a thing) and braid my husbands chest hair! Go me!!!!
All in all, I like how there is only 5 benefits and 12 Withdrawal symptoms... Well played sugar, well played.
2 days.... 2 days!
