I started back at work last week and swore to myself that things were going to go back to 100% fructose free. This also was the start of the 2 year old getting sick and going on strike from sleep. The 7 year old decided to join her on this journey of all night raves, 2 nights ago. My resolve to go hard, has been de-railed from these two evil little midgets.
This week I have stuffed up without even realising it. I completely blame the lack of sleep and my brain functioning at the level of a teletubby. The first time was when I thought I bought 2 bottles of sugar free dry ginger ale. It wasn't till after I finished the first bottle and went to recycle it, that I realised it was just full sugar... (go me!!) My second mistake for the week, was when we ran out of our homemade tomato sauce and I had to use our trusty back up one, that I had purchased early in this journey. It was from a health food store and had the smallest amount of fructose for tomato sauce on the market. I placed it on the bench patiently waiting for the sausage rolls to cook. When it was time for me to grab the sauce off the counter, I grabbed the one from the back of the pantry ( the one we have set aside for bbqs and visitors) and doused all our sausage rolls in it. Life is good on no sleep.
I've had a major case of bloat belly lately, to the point I am waiting for people to start spreading rumours that I am 3 months pregnant. Ladies and gentleman it's a food baby!
Speaking of babies… I rarely ever drink energy drinks, but I took two Sugar Free V's to work yesterday to help me stay awake in our inservice. Just as I had cracked the first one and was wondering if there was a way I could feed it directly into my veins, my work colleague decides to inform me, that she read one of the ingredients in energy drinks is bull semen… What the actual feck?? So husband if you happen to look at my internet history on my phone, I'm not planning on studding a cow, nor am I looking into a new diet fad. I was actually trying to find out if there was bull semen in Sugar Free V's. The answer, is no. Random fact for the day.
So here I am feeling tired, bloated and carrying twins called scotch and dry and sneaky snack, as well as drinking energy drinks with god knows what in them, in order to stay awake. When a friend of mine messages me saying she really wants to start giving up fructose, but the only catch was she wanted me to do the detox with her. I told her that I could probably do with a detox, but our experiences will be completely different.
We talked about it for a while and decided that I will do 5 weeks with her, but then she is on her own. I only do this because I found the more ownership you have over your eating and knowing exactly what you need to do, the more chance you have of success. I think 5 weeks is enough to kickstart her in the right direction and give her the tools to tackle it on her own.
We agreed to start next Monday, because every person knows that you can't possibly start a diet mid week (that is just blasphemous). This also gives her the chance to have a last supper and get herself ready. I thought I would blog the 5 weeks of meal plans and what she needs to do, incase anyone else reading wants to give it a crack. I will create a new tab up the top called 5 week detox for those wanting to follow and will have the page set up by Friday night (if the Gods of sick children allow me)
Today I am proud to celebrate Australia Day!! We had been invited to 2 different parties to get our Aussie on at, but unfortunately will not be going to them because my little chickens are sick.
The 7 year old is devastated because as well as dropping into the parties, I said I would take him down to the beach to have a look at the Australia Day festivities and a swim. Its funny how he can't remember to take his plate to the sink ,even when reminded every single bloody day, but can remember a promise I made to him over a month ago, in the car driving back from a huge day a the beach.
Today I had organised to make:
** vegemite and cheese scrolls_
** choc slice with little Australia Day Flags
** Butter biscuits in the shape of kangaroos
Alas pouring greek yoghurt into a bowl this morning was a huge effort and in my sleepless state, I'm sure the kitchen will catch fire and we will all end up in hospital from food poisoning. Therefore I'm just going to do what any true Aussie would do and spend today not in the kitchen, but chilling out with my family and enjoying a cold beverage or three whilst listening to some tunes.
I'm going to crank the aircon in the room for the little ones and set up some movies and snacks for them to enjoy. Maybe, just maybe, if they sleep today (the odds are surely in my favour since they had about 3 hours last night) i might join them.
Happy Australia Day Everyone
