Yesterday to be honest was a complete blur. All I know is that I didn't eat breakfast, I had a toasted sandwich at work whilst being surrounded by other peoples food, not to mention the birthday mud cake ( which did not appeal to me in the slightest). We also had nachos for dinner because I had the toasted sandwich for lunch and needed a quick meal before my 8:30pm Oztag game. Nachos came about because I found some corn chips that had less than 1gm of sugar in them, which was actually better than the pita bread I had been using. The 6 year old helped me construct it. His side just had chicken, tomato, avocado, sour cream and cheese where mine had some olives and spinach added.
Today was pretty much the same. I had a poached egg on sourdough bread with some avocado. I have banned those coconut and macadamia muffins from the fridge. Which is a pity when I put $16 worth of macadamia nuts in them. I just can't like them. It's like that person who everyone says great things about but when you meet them, you just don't get how people can think so highly of them. I'm thinking the coconut oil flavour is just way too intense and mixed with the almonds, its just not working. I feel like I'm already gagging before I eat it. I offered one to the dog and she didn't even want it. This is a dog that eats poo.... so thats really saying something.
Lunch at work was a little bit of leftover nachos and once again due to them being such a big hit with the 6 year old, left overs were very scarce, so I made another toasted sandwich. Which leads me to my week 3 challenge of cutting back on my sour dough bread. I'm only going to have it every 2nd day for a week.
Now dinner tonight was a little bit of a fiasco. I was making a grand lamb roast for the family because the husband is home. I asked him to defrost it at about 10:30 when I realised I had forgotten to get it out of the freezer. He thought he would do this by putting it outside in the sun.....Great idea if you want that special flavour of crow... Yep the dirty disgusting crows decided to pay our yard a visit and try and peck the meat out of the bag. A$$holes! So poor husband had to go to Woolies and grab another one. I then decided that time was now running out to even do a roast, so I decided "toad in the hole" dish with the pork sausages would do tonight. This decision was also made for me when the hubby said he was thinking of taking the 6 year old to the movies. The effort of a lamb roast for just me and the 1 year old seemed a bit hardcore. I was thinking we should just grab a bottle and go to bed. She can have a bottle of milk and I will have a bottle of scotch.
However we went with the toad in the hole meal and it did not disappoint (what a stupid name for the record). The batter around the sausages was ammmmmazing! I couldn't put my finger on what it tasted like (the 6 year old said donut) but oh man it was good. I would happily just eat a plate of the batter!! The sausages did kinda freak me out a little, as I usually like my meat burnt (i had an episode once when I ate half a raw sausage on bread and got food poisoning) So anything that looks slightly under makes me anxious.
I'm still craving softdrink when I'm thirsty. Its like my brain is trying to convince me that it's a much better option than water, but once I have some water my cravings go away.
Speaking of cravings, I haven't had any for 3 days at all. I have been having a small bite of an anzac biscuit which does have malt syrup in it, so maybe that is helping? Who knows. I have however been craving a holiday, is that a symptom? Just a holiday where I sleep all day that would be nice.
I thought I hit the sugar free jackpot yesterday. I found these packets of chips in the health food store that had 0gm of sugar!! They were plain flavoured and seemed to tick all the boxes. I asked the lady if she would recommend them for someone quitting sugar. She told me that she had actually quit sugar thats why she ordered them in. She also recommended the vinegar malt flavoured. I was pretty excited, excited enough that I got 3 bags of the salt and malt vinegar, 1 packet of plain and the packet of corn chips.. At $8 a bag I spent $40 on potato chips... hmm go budget. So I when I got home I was so excited to try them. I decided to read the back again (i swear I read it 10x). That was when I noticed they contained fructose... The one thing you shouldn't have when quitting sugar. Awesome.... So thats 3 bags I can't have. The corn chips were fine and the plain had been cooked in safflower oil (yeh thats a thing not a typo). You can still eat them but its not a good fat/oil that its been cooked in. I only learnt this after eating half the packet... So looks like I got owned by the health food shop lady... $40 on chips that I could only eat 1 packet of....well played lady, well played
