I was actually hoping to go the Paleo cafe on the second day we arrived in Cairns (yes thats how excited I was about going… pfft shopping, lets EAT!!)
However we had so much on, I couldn't fit it in. I finally decided to speak up on the 4th day, after a morning of looking at rainforests and waterfalls. My husband however had another idea that didn't involve going to a Paleo Cafe, his day involved going back to where we were staying and drinking beer…
I am not ashamed to say that I got my pout on… Yep right then and there in the car I went full pout, especially when he suggested that we save it for another day. Needless to say there was an argument which ended in the husband saying we will go there for lunch and me saying "don't worry about it! I don't even want to go there now!!.." Cause thats the annoying turd that I am.
Of course we did go to the Paleo cafe that day and in retrospect I wish we didn't.
So who is up for paying $79 for lunch!!!!!! Yes that is not a typo SEVENTY-NINE bloody dollars!!
In all fairness, I was too excited looking at all the options (which weren't really exciting at all) to bother adding up what we were about to order. There was nothing on the menu that the kids would really eat, but today it wasn't about the kids, it was all about me.
The husband and I both got vegetable stacks and I got mine with a side order of pesto chicken. Wow i'm pretty sure I was served maybe $6 of vegetables on my plate The 7 year old got a lentil burger which of course had to be spicy and ruin his life instantly. WORST DAY EVER! However it looked pretty dam delicious from where I was sitting. We got a side order of sweet potato fries that were absolutely soaking in oil. At first they were quite nice, but after 5, I felt like I was eating a spoonful of oil with every bite.
My absolute favourite thing that I ordered, was the Signature Ice Coffee. I don't even drink coffee, so Im not sure what on earth inspired me to go down this road. I had to ask them to hold the honey and then talk me through what was in their coconut cream ice cream. It had a little more fructose then I would have liked, but I decided to run with it anyway.
My husband got something called a Bullet Proof Coffee, which is just coffee, butter and coconut oil…. yeh sounds like sh*t doesn't it!!
The 1 year old ended up having a banana and walnut muffin as there was nothing on the menu that she was going to eat and she actually ate the whole thing (probably because it had honey in it…)
The husband and 7 year old got matching disgusting juices with ginger and other things that should not go in juices.
So lets just recap on what we were served
2 x vegetable stack (1 with 3 pieces of tiny chicken on the side)
Lentil Kids burger meal
1 x small sweet potato fries
1 banana wallnut muffin
1 bullet proof coffee
1 Signature Ice Coffee
2 bottles of random crazy gross juice
And one hefty bill of $79
All I can say is that cave men are a$$holes….. They obviously charge like 100 dollars an hour hunter gatherer fee… Seriously Paleo Cafe, why so expensive!! So hipster of you really!
On another note, I thought I would post my weekly meal plan for this week as I am trying to inject myself with some vegetables and healthier food options to detox from my holiday
Kids Choice (First day back at school today so the 7 year old chose Subway as his choice)
Thai Chicken Curry
Chicken and coconut with lime satay sauce on a bed of zucchini noodles
Pasta Pesto with a side of roast vegetables
Potato Flan Pie with a side of salad
Cous Cous with roast cheery tomatoes and pine nuts
Spag Bol for the kids
Roast Pumpkin, spinach and fetta sausage rolls with a side salad
Vegetable Casserole on a bed of rice
Zuchinni caramelised onion 3 cheese pie with quinoa and brown rice crust!!
I will post the recipes to the recipe section as I make them, because knowing my motivation with it being the first week back at school and my first week back at work from holidays, we may end up eating take-away every night AND as long as it doesn't cost me $76 I couldn't give a fruc…..
Stay Classy Tuesday!!
